Korg T1 Face Front

Korg T1
Music Workstation Synthesiser

The Korg T-Series was launched in 1989 as the replacement for the Korg M1.

The Korg T-series came in 3 sizes:

  • Korg T1 - 88-key weighted action key bed

  • Korg T2 - 76-key semi-weighted key bed

  • Korg T3 - 61-key semi-weights key bed

The T3 looked like the M1 due to the fact that it re-used the M1 case and was about the same weight.

Whereas the T1 needed two people to move it, due to weight and size. But it had big flat surfaces that were great for holding your computer, rack modules, mixer and anything else you need to create music.

The hope was that the Korg T-Series would take over from the M1.  But the M1 continued to be manufactured well into 1995 and the T-series was discontinued in 1991 following the launch of the Korg 01/W range.

I have always thought that the problems with this range of synths was that they were not sufficiently different from the Korg M1 to warrant spending on the new platform.

I acquired the T1, following my memory of playing this in the shop in London following release and thinking what a beautiful keyboard it was.  My example of the T1 has now been fully restored.
